Experience a piece of history when you call Old Chestnut Cabin your homestead away from home! This charming 1800s cabin in Waynesville offers the best of both worlds—modern convenience with authentic old-school charm, just minutes from Lake Junaluska's outdoor adventures.
This historic retreat sleeps up to 8 guests across 3 bedrooms and 3 comfortable beds. The main level features a private bedroom with Queen bed, while the second level offers two additional bedrooms—one with a Queen bed and one with a Twin XL bed. Two full bathrooms serve the property, including one with a stunning free-standing clawfoot bathtub perfect for soaking after mountain adventures. Both living areas include pull-out sofas for flexible sleeping arrangements.
Originally located in Tennessee, this authentic cabin was relocated to Lake Junaluska in 1977—search for the original log tags that aided the reassembly process! Inside, rustic charm prevails with thoughtfully placed 1800s antiques, a cozy stone fireplace for gathering, and a full kitchen perfect for intimate meals or feasting with friends. The wooden dining table creates the ideal setting for meals by the fire, while two private balconies offer mountain views through old growth trees.
Key amenities include WiFi, dedicated workspace, full kitchen with modern appliances, washer and dryer, air conditioning, central heating, indoor fireplace, private entrance, outdoor furniture, BBQ grill, and kayak access. The cabin provides free parking for two cars directly in front, with overflow parking across the street.
Just a short walk through mature trees takes you to Lake Junaluska's gleaming shoreline, offering kayaking, swimming, hiking, paddle boarding, fishing, and seasonal lakeside pool access. Nearby attractions include mini-golf, tennis and pickleball courts, fitness center, and the community fire pit for s'mores. The Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains, Asheville, and Cherokee are all conveniently located minutes away, with Cataloochee Ski Area just 23 miles up the road.
Please note: Access requires climbing over 40 stone stairs from street level, and interior stairs between floors are steep and ladder-like. We recommend children and pets remain on the main level for safety. Due to the cabin's historic nature, heating and cooling are managed via the main level thermostat, fireplace, and seasonal window breezes from the lake.
