Discover the unique charm of the Urbach House on Bayou Amulet, an interesting 90-year-old home nestled in the heart of the Natchitoches Historic District. This one-of-a-kind bungalow is one of the few properties in town featuring a basement level, offering a blend of historic character and extreme comfort with excellent furnishings and mattresses rated as some of the most comfortable worldwide.
Designed for groups and families, the home features 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, accommodating up to 10 guests. Sleeping arrangements include three spacious king bedrooms—the primary Urbach Room downstairs, and the Cane River and Magnolia Rooms upstairs, which offer excellent second-story views of the foliage and bayou. The downstairs Cypress Room features a full-sized bed and a massive walk-in closet containing two rollaway beds. The layout is split across two levels; guests enter on the second floor to find the living room, sunroom, game room, and two bedrooms. A gorgeous winding wood staircase leads downstairs to the kitchen, dining area, and two additional bedrooms. For guests who find the interior stairs difficult, a more navigable outdoor staircase connects the parking area to the patio.
Entertainment is abundant in the game room, which boasts a 1980s arcade machine with classic games, foosball, darts, karaoke, a TV, DVD player, and numerous board games. Every room is equipped with a closet, dresser, and Roku TV. For those needing to work, the Urbach and Cane River Rooms provide desks, supported by high-speed 1-gig fiber internet. A whimsical touch awaits in the kitchen, where a secret passage behind the fridge leads to the laundry room.
Step outside to the gigantic, serene patio overlooking Bayou Amulet. This surprising wilderness area in the middle of town is a haven for wildlife, where you might spot a large barred owl or local squirrels. Please tread carefully when venturing off the deck, as the ground is covered in cypress knees and bamboo stumps.
Located in a National Landmark Historic District, the house is perfectly positioned for exploration. You can take a peaceful stroll past gorgeous homes to reach Front Street, Northwestern State University, and Ft. St. Jean Baptiste. The property is just three houses down from Steel Magnolia House and a short walk to the American Cemetery, as well as various coffee shops, restaurants, art galleries, and museums.
