Transport yourself to Mystic's shipbuilding heyday at Smith Cottage, an adorable, open-concept retreat in historic Old Mystic, Stonington. Nestled at the head of the Mystic River, this pet-friendly getaway captures the essence of a bygone era, combining Colonial nautical charm with 21st-century comfort to offer a genuine New England hospitality experience.

This unique historical stay originally served as a blacksmith's shop in the early 1900s. The home features an inviting layout with 2 bedrooms, 2 beds, and 1 bathroom, accommodating up to 4 guests. The sleeping arrangements include a king-size bedroom on the first floor with a partition wall and an attic-style second-floor loft with a queen-size bed. Please note that the stairs to the loft are steep and not recommended for children under 8 or those with balance challenges. All beds are outfitted with new Casper memory foam mattresses and beautiful linens.

The interior is filled with antiques and whimsical nautical murals by artist Susan Dwyer Leach. Guests can enjoy an open-plan living area featuring a cozy sitting space with two sofas, a 43” Samsung Smart TV, and a Sonos Beam Soundbar for movie nights. The fully equipped kitchen and a dining table for four make it easy to enjoy a quiet evening in. Outside, a private covered porch with four rocking chairs provides a peaceful spot to relax, while the shared backyard offers Adirondack chairs, hammocks, a firepit, and a propane grill.

Located on Main Street in the hamlet of Old Mystic, the cottage is a short 5-minute ride to Mystic Seaport, local shops, and restaurants. Guests can explore scenic River Road by foot or bike, with bikes available for use. The property is situated on a bustling corner with daytime road noise, but it becomes quiet and peaceful in the evenings. Haley's Way Playground and field are located directly behind the property, providing a great space for children and pets.

Practical details include a check-in time of 4:00 PM and check-out by 11:00 AM via a Schlage keypad lock. Two off-street parking spots are available in the shared driveway. We welcome up to two well-behaved, house-trained small to medium dogs with a $60 fee per pet. Cats and other pets are not permitted. Guests must ensure pets are not left alone for extended periods and are kept on leashes when exploring the busy streets of Mystic.
