CHECKING IN
There is a digital keypad on the front door to access the cabin. The code will be shared ahead of your stay. The cabin can be accessed starting at 4pm EST (unless we have previously agreed to a special circumstance). Please note that the keypad is for the deadlock, NOT the bottom lock. Only use the keypad to lock and unlock the front door during your stay, do NOT lock the bottom lock.
TOILET
The cabin is on a septic system and I kindly ask that you ONLY flush the provided toilet paper down the toilet.
PETS
While the cabin is pet friendly with the appropriate fee, I ask that you keep pets off the furniture at all times. This includes the couch, lounge chair, and bed. I reserve the right to charge an additional fee for significant presence of dog hair on any furniture.
Also, please do NOT allow your pet to use the bathroom on the deck. I reserve the right to charge an additional fee for any urine or feces found on the deck.
SLEEPING AREAS
There is a queen bed on the main floor of the cabin, as well as a queen bed in the loft (which can be accessed via the ladder). Please note that while there are images with the ladder folded up into the ceiling, we keep it down and have adjusted it to be stationary at this time for the safety of our guests! PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN CLIMBING ON IT! PLEASE FACE THE LADDER AT ALL TIMES WHEN GOING UP OR DOWN! I also kindly ask that you do NOT bring any food to the loft area.
WOOD STOVE & FIRE PIT
THERE IS A FIRE EXTINGUISHER LOCATED NEAR THE WOOD STOVE FOR ANY FIRE EMERGENCIES.
USE OF LIGHTER FLUID IN THE WOOD STOVE IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED! While there may be some leftover firewood from previous guests, I recommend picking up a bundle or two of firewood ahead of your stay if you would like to use either the indoor wood stove or outdoor fire pit (the Speedway located on route 28 near the cabin should have some, as well as other local gas stations). For the wood stove, be sure to chop lots of kindling and use it to get the fire very hot before adding larger logs. There are a bunch of great YouTube videos you can find on how to light a fire if you run into any issues, or have never done so before!
During the winter when snow is likely, the fire pit and chairs will be stored under the deck to the right of the stairs to avoid snow pile build up when they are not being used. You can simply bring them out from that area to enjoy the fire pit as you see fit, please just ensure you do not place it too close to the deck as it then becomes a fire hazard.
LOCKED DOOR AND CABINETS
Please note that we lock both the utility room door as well as multiple cabinets inside the cabin. Guests are strictly forbidden from accessing these spaces. Any evidence of guests attempting to open will result in an additional $100 charge.
ENTERTAINMENT
There is an Apple TV set up with Netflix, HULU, HBO, and some other streaming apps for you to enjoy. To access the Apple TV Home Screen with all of the apps, use the small Apple TV remote and press the menu button a few times. Please note that the TV may say it is not connected to the wifi when you initially turn it on, but if you follow the above steps you will get to the apps that are connected to the internet. Please only use profiles that state CABIN when streaming through any of these apps.
HEATING/COOLING
There is a split AC unit for heating/cooling, you will see the remote to control this on the column adjacent to the kitchen island. Please note that you can change the “mode” for heating, cooling, fan, etc.
There is also baseboard heating along the walls of the living room and downstairs bed, as well as in the bathroom. Feel free to turn on/off/adjust to your comfort levels during the colder months.
SMOKING/SHOES IN CABIN
Absolutely NO SMOKING inside the cabin. There is plenty of room to smoke outside of the cabin - you are in nature!
I also kindly ask that you do NOT wear shoes inside the cabin. There is a shoe rack conveniently located next to the front door entrance - please take your shoes off and leave them there. I reserve the right to charge an extra fee for significant traces of dirt, salt, etc. tracked in the house due to shoes.
GARBAGE
Garbage bins are located underneath the sink. The blue can is for recycling only, while the other is for regular trash. There is a large garbage can at the bottom of the driveway for overflow should you fill up multiple bags during your stay - please ensure you clip it close to protect it from bears and other animals getting into it.
OUTDOORS
IF YOU CHOOSE TO EAT OUTSIDE, BE SURE TO BRING ALL GARBAGE INSIDE AFTERWARDS. The cabin is located right in the woods, so animals/bugs will gladly come around and disrupt your stay should you leave anything outside. More specifically, black bears do roam these woods, so if you see one please be sure to keep a safe distance, make loud noises, and do not stare with direct eye contact.
I also highly recommend bringing bug spray for your trip (during the warmer months) given the cabin’s location in the woods. You’ll also notice a trunk on the deck - there are sofa cushions that you may use to cozy up on the outdoor sofa!
Finally, please keep the screen door closed at all times. While we do our best to keep insects out of that area, it is still an outside space so they do make their way in, but we’d like to minimize that as much as possible for your sake and ours!
STRING LIGHTS
The string lights are on an automatic timer from sunset to sunrise. If you would like to turn them off at any time, you will need to press the button on the timer that is plugged into the outdoor outlet near the grill. There is no switch to turn them on/off from inside the cabin.
YARD MAINTENANCE
I have landscapers come to the cabin weekly during the warmer months to maintain the yard, so do not be alarmed if someone is there mowing the grass, clearing leaves, etc. - this is to your benefit!
PREPARING FOR SNOW
During the winter season when snow is likely, you will absolutely need 4WD to navigate the area. I also highly recommend snow tires (and tire chains if they are accessible to you), as the road leading up to the cabin is steep in some parts (we are, after all, in the beautiful Balsam Lake Mountain!). If it snows while you are at the cabin, it is possible that someone will be coming by to plow the driveway and clear the deck during your stay, so no need to be alarmed if they do stop by while you are there, this is to your benefit!
CHECKING OUT
I simply ask that you treat my cabin with respect during your stay. I have a cleaning service that will come to the cabin promptly after your stay, but would appreciate if you would consolidate all garbage in bags, leave any used towels on the bathroom floor, wash your dirty dishes (you can leave them drying on the rack), put the outdoor sofa cushions back in the trunk if you used them, and ensure the propane is turned off on the grill if you used it.
Please lock the front door with the keypad upon check out, which is at 11am EST.
That's it. Message me through the Airbnb app with any questions.
