Garbage/Pest: Please keep in mind that we are on an island and as such we can have ants and/or cockroaches come into the units. We do our best to keep them out through regular pest control treatments. You can help us by not leaving food out on the counters, cleaning up after each meal and keeping the unit clean during your stay. These pests are simply looking for food and if there is none to be found, there is no reason for them to come into the unit

Registration: upon arrival, please pick up Registration and Pool Release Form in front of Resident Manager’s office door, fill it out and return to Resident Manager’s office door slot within 24 hours

Smoking: Smoking is prohibited inside the condo or any common area. Designated smoking area is by the trash bin at the parking lot

Departure Cleaning and Damage Assessment: Upon departure, please take any trash out and we appreciate if you start the dishwasher. Reasonable regular cleaning is provided at each departure. Any excessive cleaning or laundry at departure, will be assessed with additional fee of $50 per hour. Any breakage or damage, will be assessed and charge accordingly

Complex House & Pool Rules

Welcome to Makani A Kai! We hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable stay in our “piece of Paradise.” We ask your cooperation in observing the following Rules and Regulations to help ensure that Makani A Kai remains a pleasant and friendly place to live and visit for all our owners and guests. Mahalo!

General House Rules

1. Within 1 day of your arrival, you must register your vehicle by completing a Vehicle Registration Form and dropping it in the mail slot of the Makani A Kai Office (located opposite the laundry room in the same building). Your rental agent should have provided you with a vehicle registration form but if you do not have one, the forms are available on the Makani A Kai office door. You may park in any available spot that does not have a Reserved or Disabled parking sign above it. One parking space per condominium is provided for owners and guests. All other vehicles are to be parked outside the parking lot. Please lock your vehicle at all times and remove any valuables. In all instances, parking is at your own risk. The Association of Apartment Owners of Makani A Kai does not assume any risk of loss.
2. Smoking is not allowed in any units or anywhere on property except the designated smoking area near the dumpster in the parking lot; this also applies to the use of electronic cigarettes. Smoking is also not allowed on all beaches and County parks per Maui County Bill 24.
3. Please help us maintain our delicate sewerage system here at Makani A Kai. Do not dispose of anything in the toilets except toilet tissue. Items such as disposable diapers, sanitary napkins, and condoms should be placed in the trash. Disposable wipes of any kind, even ones labeled as “flushable” may not be flushed down the toilet; these cause serious problems with the septic system. Whenever possible, dispose of kitchen scraps in the trash rather than using the garbage disposal. Dispose of your trash in the dumpster near the entry/exit of the main parking lot behind the wooden fence.
4. Excessive noise is not allowed at any time; and the use of headphones with radios, CD players, etc., is preferred in common areas. Also, as a courtesy to other guests, please limit your cell phone usage in the common areas.
5. The use of profane or abusive language is strictly forbidden on the premises. Any person using such language will leave the common area upon request of the Resident Manager, an owner, or other representative of the Board of Directors.
6. Special consideration of others must be given between 9:00PM and 8:00AM, Makani A Kai’s “quiet hours.” For example, TVs and stereos must be operated at a low volume during this period. Voices and noise must be kept to a minimum when in the courtyard, on the lanais, in the parking lots and elsewhere on the premises during these “quiet hours.”
7. All residents and guests will be responsible for the conduct of their children at all times, ensuring that their behavior is neither offensive to others, nor damaging to any portion of the common elements. Children are not permitted to play on the stairways or in the parking area.
8. All common areas, including the lawns and parking lot, are not to be used for recreation. This includes, but is not limited to, skateboards, scooters, bicycles, in-line skates, ball playing, golf, or any other recently invented recreational toy.
9. All common areas, including the lawns, parking lot, pool and barbeque areas, may not be used for private business or social events, including but not limited to weddings, wedding receptions, reunions, or other group gatherings that are disruptive to other guests and residents.
10. Sidewalks, stairways, and entries must not be obstructed or used for any purpose other than ingress and egress to units. No personal items of any kind are to be left in entries or stairwells.
11. Lanais are not to be used to store items of any kind. Only appropriate furniture and small plants are permitted on lanais. For safety reasons, umbrellas are not allowed on any lanais or on any common areas on property. Any unsightly or inappropriate items must be removed upon the request of the Board or Resident Manager.
12. Articles of clothing, sheets, dustmops, etc., are not to be shaken from lanais; nor are towels, bathing apparel, or textiles of any kind to be placed on lanais, railings, or landscaping plants.
13. Wild birds are not to be fed from the lanai since this practices invites rodents. Also, do not feed the feral cats because they can transmit parasites, insects, and disease.
14. The law forbids open-fire barbequing on a lanai or any other part of the buildings. Please use the barbeques located on the grounds.
15. No littering or defacing of any common area will be allowed. Every owner, tenant, or guest is to do his/her part towards abating unsightliness to the fullest practical extent.
16. Anyone found tampering with the fire extinguishers will be subject to police action and liable for all costs involved in repairs, replacements, or damage caused to the buildings or personal property.
17. Fireworks are not allowed on the premises at any time.
18. Nothing is to be dropped or thrown from a lanai or window.
19. Laundry Room Hours are 8:00AM to 9:00PM.
20. Solicitation for goods or services is not permitted on the premises. Please report such instances to the Resident Manager.
21. Makani A Kai is a residential condominium project. Each apartment shall be used as an owner, lessee or guest residence only and for no other purpose. Occupancy shall be limited to not more than four persons for a 1-bedroom unit and six persons for a 2-bedroom unit.

Swimming Pool Rules

1. Pool Hours are 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
2. Pool usage is for the exclusive use of residents and their guests. The Association of Apartment Owners of Makani A Kai and its owners are not responsible for accidents and injuries. All usage is at your own risk.
3. The pool gate combination may be obtained from the Resident Manager. The pool gate must be closed at all times.
4. There is no lifeguard on duty at any time.
5. Per State of Hawaii Regulation 6510.2R, an adult must supervise children under the age of fourteen (14) in the pool area. Makani A Kai further requires that an adult must accompany children under the age of seven (7) in the pool.
6. Running, pushing, horseplay, loud radios and loud pool games (Example: Marco Polo) are not allowed.
7. No food or drinks are allowed in the pool. Glassware or other breakable items are not allowed in either the pool or barbeque areas. Smoking is not permitted within the fenced pool area or the barbeque area; this also applies to the use of electronic cigarettes.
8. Nude bathing is not allowed. Infants and toddlers must wear swim diapers.
9. State of Hawaii – Department of Health requirements: (Chapter 11, Title 10 and 13A) state: - “All persons known to be or suspected of being afflicted with infectious or communicable disease, suffering from cough, cold sores, or wearing bandages, shall be excluded from using the swimming pool.” - “Spitting, spouting water, and blowing the nose in the swimming pool are strictly prohibited.”
10. For sanitation reasons, all persons using the pool must remove all suntan lotion/oil, sand, and dirt prior to entering the pool. These factors can cause damage to the pool’s filtration system.
11. Boogie boards, surfboards, floating lounge chairs and other similar items are not allowed in the pool. Personal flotation devices such as vests and inflatable arm floats are allowed. Inflatable mats and small children’s pool toys are also allowed, but must not be left in the pool or unattended at any time. Please be courteous and respectful of others when using any items in the pool.
12. No diving is allowed.
13. Tampering with any part of the pool equipment is not allowed.
14. Intoxicated individuals are not allowed in the pool or pool area.
15. Lawn furniture cannot be “reserved” and is to be used on the lawn and pool areas only. Return all lawn furniture to the beachfront lawn area.
16. Any accidental bodily discharge in the pool shall be reported immediately to the Resident Manager. In such an event, the Resident Manager will order the pool closed to all bathers. The Resident Manager shall clean the pool, use proper disinfectants and test the quality of the water (per State of Hawaii’s Standards) before the pool is reopened.
17. Management reserves the right to deny the use of the pool or barbeque area to anyone violating these rules.
