Shopping
areas on the south shore are situated both in Poipu and Koloa.
There is also a major shopping center near Lihue. In all cases,
groceries, a variety of retail clothing, art, gifts and jewelry
reflecting tropical styles are plentiful, as well as many crafts
and products made right here on Kauai.
Ala Moana Center
Ala Moana is not only the largest shopping center in the state;
it's the biggest open-air shopping center in the world. Browse
in the over 200 shops from department stores to Hawaiian
specialty shops to world-famous boutiques. Then pause to eat at
the Makai Market, the shopping center's food court. The mall is
conveniently located right near Waikiki and is directly on the
bus route. The center serves as the central bus hub for
Honolulu. You can take care of business at the post office,
banks, airline offices, the currency exchange, or the satellite
City Hall for bus schedules and county camping permits. When
you're completely exhausted, rest and behold the tropical
flowers and Japanese koi in the fishponds.

The Chinatown district is a lively and vibrant part of the
downtown area. Chinatown is the source of interesting shops. Lei

Nuuanu Avenue, and River Street.
