Province of zero Celsius
In Thai the word "loei" means "beyond" or "to the furthest extreme", a fitting name for a town and province that lie in the northernmost part of Northeast Thailand, straddling the edge of the Khorat Plateau. It is a land of water and mountains and the only province in Thailand that has the dubious destination of the mercury plummeting to zero Celsius. Loei has many things in common with the Northern region like numerous high hills and mountains, wintry and foggy climate. Products for which Loei is famous are down blankets and sweet coconut from Chiang Khan and golden orange, sweet tamarind and fresh mushroom from Na Haeo. In addition, there are the beautiful flowers of Phu Rua.
