Thailand - Petchaburi

Petchaburi: The Diamond City
Petchaburi, the diamond city, named for the stones once found in its river, has moved toward modernity without ever losing the root of its original claim to fame as a residence of master goldsmiths and jewellery craftsmen.

Petchaburi, an important royal fort during the Ayutthaya period, is worth visiting for its splendid historical park and ancient temples, wonderful beaches and caves, as well as a great variety of local food.

Phetchaburi is known for delicious fruits such as rose apples and cantaloupe. It is also famous for a large variety of Thai sweets with palm sugar as their main ingredient. The most popular is Khanom Mo Kaeng (similar to pudding, made of crushed steamed mung bean, egg, coconut milk and sugar).

There are three important rivers in Phetchaburi; they are: ‘Petchaburi River’ having an overall length of 227 kilometers; ‘Bang Kloy River’ having and overall length of 44 kilometers; and ‘Bang Tabun River’ having and overall length of 18 kilometers.
