Malaysia - Location

Nestled between the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea, at the southern most tip of the Asian continent, Malaysia is strategically located.

Malaysia is located in the heart of Southeast Asia, slightly north of the Equator. Consisting of 127,000 sq. miles (330,200 sq. km), Malaysia is divided into two main regions. Peninsular Malaysia, which lies just south of Thailand, and East Malaysia, which can be found north of Indonesia on the island of Borneo. The two regions are 650km (403mi) apart, separated by the South China Sea. Peninsular Malaysia shares borders with Thailand and Singapore. The Andaman Sea is on the west coast of the peninsula.

Peninsular Malaysia is located between latitudes 1 and 7 in the northern hemisphere and longitudes 100 and 104. It is bordered by Thailand in the north and Singapore in the south and is separated from Indonesia by the Straits of Melaka in the West and from East Malaysia by the South China Sea in the East.
