India - Tipping

For room service, 10% of the bill is usually the tip. Some major hotels include a service charge of 10%, an appropriate amount to leave the waiter in any restaurant. Room service attendants, waiters, housekeepers, porters, and doormen all expect a tip. There is nothing wrong if you tip your room valet Rs.20 or more per night, Bellboys and bell captains Rs.10 or more per bag, the concierge who gets you a taxi Rs. 5 or more. If you hire a car with a driver, over the driver's Bata that is charged on daily basis, tip him about Rs. 50 - Rs. 100 per day depending on the distance travelled. The tipping actually depends on the situation, standards, resolution and finally the conscience of the payer.
