India - Climate

India being so vast, the climatic conditions vary from region to region. The country has mainly three seasons a year.

  • Rainy
    June-September - southwest monsoon
    October-November - northeast monsoon

  • Summer
    April-July

  • Winter
    Mid October - February

CloudsThe best time to visit India is during the winter and till March, except the Himalayan region where April-September is the best time. But in south of the nation there is no winter as such. Usually there the days will be hot and night remains cool. This type of climatic condition prevails from September to March. The season sets in with the onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala, the southern state, usually on June 1st. It progresses northward and covers the whole nation by the end of July. The eastern coastal belts like, coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, experience the northeast monsoon during October and November, at the time when north is experiencing the winter.

The east coast, during this period is marked by cyclones spreading havoc to the crops and lives, mainly owing to the severe atmospheric depression in the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean, which moves towards the mainland at a destructive speed.
