The state of Gujrat was born on 1st May 1960 as a result of the Bombay Re-Organization Act 1960. The state was formed from the north and the west portions of the Bombay State.

The  state  has the  sites of  the earliest   civilization ever recorded in the world, namely The Indus Valley Civilization. Some of its portions are now in Pakistan now. Two more Harappan sites have been found in Moti and Pipari village and surrounding areas in the Radhanpur and Koliwada Talukas in the western part of the desert region in North Gujarat bordering Pakistan. With these 50 Harappan sites have been found in North Gujrat.
