Goa - Architecture

Latin influenced architecture is prominent in Goa. But the churches of Goa, built during the 16th and 17th centuries are basically in the Baroque-Renaissance style with Gothic touches. The blends of European and Italian styles are also visible. Doric, Corinthian, composite-style, Ionic are adapted for some buildings.

Temple The capital of Goa, Panaji, is a beautiful place. One can see the Latin style houses, statues and buildings here. Goa’s temples and mosques show alien influences leading to composite forms. The pagoda style roofed Shri Shant Durga temple and Shri Nagesh temple are good examples for the Goan architecture. The temple of Shri Chandramath is situated on the top of the 350-meter high hill of Chandramath at Parodo where the idol is carved out from the rock which oozes water whenever rays of moon fall on it, is a marvelous attraction. Islamic style buildings are also found in Goa.
