Sea FoodGoan food has a strong Portuguese flavor, Palm vinegar and large amounts of coconut, garlic, tamarind and chilly are normally used. Goa is home to the famous ‘Pork Vindaloo’. Other famous Goan specialties are Xacuti (chicken or meat dish), bangra (Goan mackerel), sanna (rice cupcakes soaked in palm toddy before cooking), dodol, bebinca and moira kela. Balchaos is a famous spicy seafood pickle. There is a wide choice of seafood-clams, mussels, crab, lobster, giant prawns-which is often cooked with fragrant spices. Goans brew their own local varieties of alcohol. ‘Feni’ made from distilled cashew or from the sap of coconut palms is a widely popular beverage. Feni to Goa is what Scotch is to Scotland.
