Daman & Diu - Beaches

Beaches
There are a few good beaches to choose from and all offer a little different landscape and topography.  You can take your pick.  The waters are clean and safe and just the right temperature.  Usually blue or beautiful emerald green, the sea turns brown as the monsoon approaches in June and stays this way until Sept

Devka beach Daman
Devka is a beautiful and unspoilt beach with a long shore-line situated in the northern part of Daman. There is also a popular amusement park on the beach with multicoloured fountains.

Situated in the southern part of Daman near the Gujarat border, Jampore is the right place for a quiet holiday. The broad and even beach line complemented by the undisturbed solitude and serenity makes Jampore a paradise for the sea-lovers. The shore is most suited for swimming as it is danger free. The department of Tourism has provided sun-shades, picnic platforms and benches near the beach.
Getting there: Just 168 km from Bombay by rail-road and about 193 km by the national highway

Jampore Beach

Towards south Jampore Beach leads    on to the border of Gujarat. It is a pleasant spot, where one communes with nature in sublime solitude. This beach is most suited to swimming as it is danger-free. During low-tide, one can walk on the soft wet sand right into the sea. Don’t miss a picnic with your family in the shade of Casurina plantation on the sea-shore.

Chakratirath Beach
Chakratirath Beach is centrally located and contiguous to the town at Diu. This beach serves the locals as well as domestic and international tourists, providing them with an opportunity to have a worthwhile break. The hill and the surrounding areas and landscape has been beautifully illuminated.

Ghoghla Beach
As far as beaches go, it's hard to beat this one. Like the Gomtimata beach there are no trees and so no shade. However, the white sand, water, and the gentle slope coupled with some excellent surf make it by far the best. There is usually hardly anyone on this 5 km long beach. The reason being that it is on the mainland and removed from the meeting places, restaurants and bars in Diu. But it's worth a visit. Only 3 to 4 kms. From Diu main square and 10 minutes by auto rickshaw the entry points to this beach is at the Ghoghla Check-post.

There are two upper budget hotels here, the Suzlon Beach Resort & the Magico Do Mar (Magic of the Sea) If you have the budget, we recommend the Magico Do Mar (located on the Gujarat side and not in Diu). This slightly more expensive place has some really good and aesthetically designed cottages and a proper beach resort ambience.

Nagoa Beach Diu
If  you  are  not  keen  on site seeing,  take a twenty minutes refreshing drive through open arid land to dense coconut groves to reach the Nagoa Beach. It is located in the Nagoa hamlet of the village of Bucharwada. The Beach is exceptionally beautiful and quiet. In this exceptionally beautiful horse – shoe ( semi-circular) shaped beach, various water sports facilities are available. It is safe for swimming. Plenty of branching Palm Hoka trees whisper and sway in the intoxicating sea breeze al day long. The virginity of the beach all day long. The virginity of the beach and serenity of the surroundings give you peace and pleasure beyond expression.
Getting There: Diu Airport is in operation. Flights are operated from Bombay regularly. Nearest railhead is Veraval, about 80 km from Diu.

Jallandhar Shrine
Jallandhar Shrine is located on a hillock close to the beach. This small shrine crowned with a dome, contains a niche wherein a stone carved face of Jallandhar is seen. Near by there is also a temple of Goddess Chandrika. The beach is at a distance of 1 km from Diu Town.

Gomtimata Beach Diu
This is a kilometre long sloping sandy beach, and if you are looking for privacy and a place away from the crowds (especially during weekends) then you have found it. Unfortunately there is no shade (tip: bring your own shade). The Forest Department of Diu has done an excellent job of planting thousands of trees but they will take a few years to grow. However, apart from this, this beach has it all. ... Soft sand, big surf, clean water, no rocks and privacy thereby making it popular with genuine Indian and Westerners beach lovers. Though it is about 9 kms from Diu town, quite a few visitors prefer to spend the day here. You should know swimming to venture into the water, here because while it is safe, the fact is that the waves are bigger and currents stronger. Unlike Nagoa beach, which is a bay, this is the open ocean in front of you. This beach is safe Nov. to mid April. Then as the monsoon season approaches the advice is that you head for more sheltered beaches such as Nagoa or Chakratirth or Sunset point in Diu town.

There are no hotels, bars & restaurants here, and hopefully it will remain this way thereby ensuring the protection of this beach from both spiritual and environmental points of view. This is a sea turtle breeding area and those are dolphins that you see frolicking in the water and coming so close that you can touch them.
