Wildlife Sanctuaries
ElephantGuindy National Park, Vedanthangal, Point Calimere, Mudumalai are the major wildlife sanctuaries of Tamil Nadu. In Guindy national park you can see black buck, spotted deer, civet cats, jackals, mongoose and various species of monkeys. There is a separate snake park in this national park. Both parks are open between 8.30 AM and 5 PM. The main Park is closed on Thursday. DeerVedantangal bird sanctuary is 35 kilometers south of Chengalpaqttu, It is one of the most spectacular water bird breeding grounds in India. Cormorants, egrets, herons, storks, spoonbills, grebes, barters and gray pelicans come here to breed and nest for six months (October-March) depending on the monsoon season. 

BirdCalimere Wildlife Sanctuary is also called as Kodikkarai, is a coastal sanctuary, 90 kilometers south east of Thanjavur, jutting out into the Palk Strait. It is noted for the vast flocks of migratory waterfowl, especially flamingos. Mundanthurai Tiger sanctuary is near the Kerala boarder. It is principally a tiger sanctuary. But Sambar, Chital and the rare lion tailed macaque also live in this sanctuary. Best time to visit this sanctuary is between January and December.
