Udhagamandalam
or Ooty is the major
hill station of Tamil Nadu. This beautiful
hill station is located in the Nilgiri
hills, 2240 meters above sea level. It was
originally a Toda village. The resort was
founded by the British in the 19th
century. Thousands of travelers are drawn to
Ooty's cool climate and peaceful green hills
every day. Best time to reach Ooty is
between January and March.
Ooty's special attractions are the Botanical
gardens, Rose garden lake, Palaces (Armamore
Palace, Mysore Palace, Beroda Palace and
Navnagar Palace), Government museum, Deer
park, Doddapetta (the highest peak in the Nilgiri's). Race Course, Pykara (Toda
settlement). Coonoor is another hill station
about 19 kilometers away from Ooty, and at
an altitude of 1858 meters above sea level.
This hill station is surrounded by tea
estates. Sims Park is the pride of this
place. From Coonoor one can visit Lambs,
rock, Loz falls, Ralliah Dam, Ketti Valley.
Kotagiri
Kotagiri, another hill station is 16
kilometers from Ooty.
Kodaikanal
It
is one of the best-known hill stations in
India. It is to the northwest of Madurai,
high on the southern ridges of the Pazhani
hills. It is never too hot in summer and
never too cold in winter. Best season to
visit Kodaikanal is March to June and
September to October.
Yercaud
This hill station is in the Servaroyan
hills of Salem district.
