Art and culture in Tamil Nadu is developed and patronized with utmost vigor and grave attention. The Tamil language and literature is considered to be the oldest of the Dravidian culture. It has been a pioneer in inventions and innovations in art and music in the south India for ages.

The remains at the Mamallapuram or Mahabalipuram even today speak of the tragic story of the couple who had maneuvered sundry sculptures on the shore. Mamallapuram means  the town of Mamalla,  the great wrestler, is located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal. The name Mahabalipuram means the town of the great king Bali, the king from whom Lord Vamana begged three yards of land. Mamallapuram beach is also a major attraction here.
