Pondicherry, the capital of Union Territory of Pondicherry is located 162 km south of Chennai touching the sea coast 'Bay of Bengal' on the Southern side of peninsular India encircled by Tamilnadu state. About 150 kilometers down south of Pondicherry lies Karaikkal (in Tamil Nadu) and Yanam(in Andhra Pradesh) lies about 840 kilometers northeast of Pondicherry both on the eastern coast of the Indian Peninsula (Bay of Bengal).
