Onset of Monsoon in the Southern Tip of India
Monsoon CloudsKerala is the first state in India to receive the monsoon, and the date of the onset of monsoon here is eagerly awaited by the rest of India boiling under the heat of summer. Some of the factors that are considered to determine the onset of monsoon in Kerala is as follows:

  • Starting from the 10th of May, if at least five out of ten meteorological stations in Kerala report 24-hour rainfall amounts of 1 mm or more for two consecutive days, the monsoon is declared on the second day.

  • The monsoon is taken as established over Kerala after it has set in north of 13º north.
