Constituted
in 1955, Nagarahole Game Sanctuary
comprises of Arikeri, Hatgat and Nalkeri
Reserve Forests. A portion of these forests
was once the exclusive hunting reserve of
the erstwhile Maharajas of Mysore. Sprawling
over an area of 6733 sq. kilometers
Nagarhole game sanctuary has a wide variety
of birds and animals. The Bandipur
National Park is flanked by the Nagarahole
Park in the northwest and the Madumalai
Sanctuary of Kerala in the southwest.
Peacock, deer and Elephants are some of the
major attractions in Bandipur National Park
while traveling through this park.
The Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary
comprises a group of six islets on the River
Kaveri. The islets are surrounded by the
waters of the Krishna Raja Sagar Reservoir.
Many birds including the Little and Large
cormorant, the Night heron, Snake Bird,
White ibis, Great Stone Plovers, spoon
bills, Lesser Whistling Teals can be sighted
here.
Kabini River Lodge provides a
breathtaking view. Patches of bright blue
pools, green trees of varying heights, and
animals roaming free. If you dare to take a
walk in the forest you are bound to take
home some unforgettable memories. Elephants,
Leopards, antelopes or may be even a
sporting tiger couple. These make some
exciting pictures. You can also hire a
tent and spend a night in the jungle.
The low sizzle of the campfire is
occasionally broken by a roar or a trumpet.
Bhimeshwari is a natural habitat for
the finest game fish-Mahseer that weights
100 lbs and fights like a Tiger. Cauvery is
abounding with many types of fish and other
water animals. Bhimeshwari 117 kilometers
from Bangalore has abundant wild life like
Elephants, Deers, Boars, Monkeys, Jackals,
Crocodiles, Otters and even Leopards. Birds
like Heron, Ibis, Cormorant, Kingfisher etc.
are found in plenty.
You have a fishing camp that provides
enthusiastic anglers a chance to try their
luck at fishing. The fishing camp provides
all amenities like cots, mosquito nets,
toilet and even a Kitchen. Food is served in
Gol-Ghar the open-air dining rooms. Tented
camps with bonfires light up the nights
making the surroundings all the more
mysterious.
Bhadra
Sanctuary is located in the Chikmaglur
& Shimoga districts, Bhadra is one of
the most fascinating sanctuaries. The great
Indian Gaur, Barking Deer, Flying
Fox, Mongoose, Elephants, Panthers,
Macaque, Bulbuls, Barbet, Blue Jay,
Kingfisher, Robin, Weaver Drongo and many
other exotic creatures have made Bhadra
their home. 257 kilometers from Bangalore
& 185 kilometers from Hassan, Bhadra
offers accommodation in the form of cottages
& tented camps.
