Udupi-Mookambika-Dharmastala
Udupi
is located about 60 kilometers north of
Mangalore on the seashore. The Lord Sri
Krishna deity at Sri Krishna Mutt here is
called Balakrishna. The temple is small with
dark granite walls, sculptures and silver
carvings. Sri Chandramauleswara Temple is a
Lord Siva Temple directly across the street
from the Krishna Temple.
Sri Mookambika
There is a temple here dedicated to the
goddesses Maha-Lakshmi, Saraswati and Durga,
combined as Mookambika to represent the full
Shakti of Sri Vishnu and His
guru-avatars.
There is a beautiful ISKCON farm about 15
kilometers from this town.
Dharmasthala
Dharmasthala is 75 kilometers northeast
of Mangalore. This town is known for the
Manjunath Temple, which is a Siva temple.
During the Laksha Deepotsava Festival
1,00,000 lamps are lit. Pilgrims bath in the
Netravati River, three kilometers away.
Murudeshwar
This picturesque place situated 16
kilometers from Bhatkal has a gorgeous
temple perched on a hillock by the shore.
The temple, which embodies a Linga, is
believed to have erupted when Ravana flung
the cloth covering the Atmalinga at Gokarnal
while lifting it. As one ascends the
hillock, there is a Shrine of Jattiga seated
on a horse.
Sringeri
Being the headquarters of Sree
Shankaracharya, Sringeri is famous for the
four mutts - Joshi , Dwaraka, Puri, and
Sringeri. Sri Sarada Devi temple was
established by Shankaracharya and at
Vidhyasankara Temple there are 12 zodiac
pillars located.

The nearest airport is Mangalore. There are
direct buses to Mookambika, Dharmasthala,
Sringeri, Murudeswar and Udupi from
Mangalore.
