Kannada is the language of the majority. Tulu and Konkani are the other languages.

Religion
Hindus form the majority. The Christians of Kanara are among the oldest converts to the faith. It is believed that the Konkani speaking people’s (Saraswath & Saraswath Goud Brahmins) ancestors were Kashmiri Pundits. To escape from the Portuguese attack they fled to Goa where they embraced Christianity. Later they came to be known as Mangalore Christians.
