Karnataka is situated on the western edge of the Deccan plateau. Maharashtra and Goa in the north, Andhra Pradesh in the east and Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the south form its neighbors. It opens out to the Arabian Sea on the west. The name ‘Karnataka’ is derived from ‘Karunadu’ meaning ‘lofty land’.
