Kukkrail Reserve
Forest
On the outskirts of Lucknow, it
has been developed by the Forest Department.
Kulkrail houses a deer park and one
of the nurseries of the endangered
species of crocodiles in India. One of the
favorite picnic spots in Lucknow, it boasts
of a Childrens Park, cafeteria and Rest
House. A variety of birds and animals can
also be seen in their natural habitats.

Rajaji National
Park
In the year 1984, three Wild
Life Sanctuaries namely Chilla Wild Life
Sanctuary, Motichur wild Life Sanctuary and
Rajaji Wild Life Sanctuary of Uttar Pradesh
were upgraded together in the form of a
national park The Rajaji National Park
The Rajaji National Park, after the name
of the famous freedom fighter Shri C. Rajagopalachari, popularly known as Rajaji.
This park is in the Shivalik Mountain
range, which runs parallel to the
Himalayas. It is situated in the Dehra Dun,
Haridwar and Puri districts of U.P.
This park is not a finally notified National
park. The three sanctuaries are legally
constituted and maintained as such under the
wild life protection act 1972. This National
park holds an area of 820.42 sq.
kilometers. About 75% of its terrain is
hilly and 25% plain. The altitude varies
from 302 to 1000 Mts. Above mean sea level.
This area got three distinct seasons namely
winter, summer and rainy.
This National park is blessed with a wide
variety of faunal life. Besides the lower
forms, about 23 species of mammals
are identified from here. The main
attractions among them are the elephants,
Tiger, Leopard and Gorillas. The
other important animals are the jungle cat, Sambar, Cheetah, Barking deer, Wild
Boar, Sloth Bear, Languor etc. Reptilian
fauna like Mountain lizard, Python, king
Cobra, etc. are also found here. A wide
variety of avifauna, that is about 315
varieties of birds have been listed out
from here. Peafowl, jungle foul, Hornbill,
woodpecker, King fisher, Parakeet Warbler,
Barbet, finch, Indian roller Oriole, are
some among them. A number of migratory birds
visit this National Park. This water harbors
good variety species of fish too.
This National Park is accessible from many
directions by road, rail, and air. Bus and
train services are available from Dehra Dun, Haridwar, Delhi and
Lucknow. Delhi is
about 231 kilometers away from the second
gate of this National park and Lucknow is
about 509 kilometers away from the 4th
gate of this National park.
The nearest Railway Station is Haridwar
and Dehra Dun and the nearest airport is at
Dehra Dun. The nearest towns are the
Hospital, Bank, Petrol Bunk, Market, Post Office, Telegraph office and telephone
facilities available are Haridwar and Rishikesh.

Nawabaganj Bird
Sanctuary
43 kilometers from Lucknow, along the
Lucknow-Kanpur highway near Unnao is
the Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary. The
sanctuary attracts rare Siberian
migratory birds during winters, the main
bird species being Pintail, Pigeon, common
teal, Shoveller, Pochard, Coot, Purple
modern and others. The ideal season
for bird watching is between December and
March.
