Mizoram - Art & Culture

Each village in this small state is dominated by its chief’s house and bachelors’ dormitory called Zawlbuk. Mizoram is distinct by its egalitarian culture as there is no sex or class discrimination. The Mizos are proud of their age-old custom of Tlawmglaihna, a code of ethics that governs hospitality. Cheraw, ‘bamboo dance’ performed for the mothers who die in child birth, to welcome them to Pialral, the realm of the dead and the weaving of local costumes such as the puan, characterized by white, black and red stripes are some of the surviving traditions.
