Mizoram - History

The Mizos belong to the Mongolian race. They are said to have settled in the Shan state of Burma. The tribes left Burma and moved westwards into India consequently occuppying the Lushai Hills. In 1891 the Mizo territory was annexed to British India. The entire Mizo territory was formed into Lushai Hills District in 1898 and was made a part of Assam. With independance Mizoram became a district of Assam. Later it became the state of the Indian Union in 1987.
