Assam - Tezpur

Tezpur, known as Sonitpur (city of Blood) in ancient time is situated on the northern bank of Brahmputra River and 181 Km away from Guwahati. The great mythological war is believed to have been fought between Hari (Lord Krishna) and Hara (Lord Shiva) and as a result the whole city was said to have drenched with blood, hence the name. Nearest Airport is Saloni, 10 Km from Tezpur and railway is Tezpur. Tezpur is the sub-line station. The 3 Km long Kalia Bhomora Bridge over the Brahmputra connects Tezpur with the south bank at Silghat (Nagaon). Tezpur is well connected by bus services with all the towns of Assam. The places to visit at Tezpur are Bamuni Hill, Hazara Tank, Da-Parbatia Gate, Cole Ark, Mahabhairava Temple, Bhairav Temple, Agnigarh, Kaliabhomora Bridge etc.

Da-Parbatiya
The  earliest and  one  of the finest  evidence of   ancient architecture of Assam is to be found at Da-Parbatiya near Tezpur. It is a small stone doorframe dating back to the 5th-6th century bearing some exquisite carvings clearly representing the best of Gupta art.
