Orang wildlife Sanctuary
This is a miniature Kaziranga, covering an area of 72 sq. Km. The animals to be seen in this sanctuary are one-horned rhinoceros, elephant, leopard, sambar, barking deer, tiger, varieties of water birds, green pigeon, florican, teal, goose etc.
Kaziranga National park
Kaziranga National park is the only National park in Assam with an area of 430 sq. Km. It is the home of the great Indian one-horned rhinoceros (Unicorn). The landscape of Kaziranga is of sheer forest, elephant grass, rugged reeds, mellow marshes and shallow pools. Rhinoceros, elephant, Indian bison, swamp deer, sambar, hog deer, slooth bear, tiger, leopard, leopard cat, jungle cat, hog badger, capped langur, hoolock gibbon, jackal, goose, hornbill, ibis, cormorant, egret, heron fishing eagle etc.
Manas National Park
The only tiger project in Assam, Manas is one of the Indias most magnificent National park. It is situated on the bank of the river Manas with the backdrop of sub-Himalayan hill. The park is known for its unique combination of world scenic charm and a rare wealth of wildlife.
Manas is one of the nine tiger reserves initially selected for conservation of wildlife. The core area 360 Km was constituted as sanctuary in 1928 and has since been included as Project Tiger. Tigers however are not the only wildlife to be found here. Manas has its own peculiar faunal features, the rarest of which are Hispid hare and the Pigmy hog. Peculiar to Manas is the fascinating golden langur. Other commonly seen animals are, Elephant, Indian Rhinoceros, Water buffalo, Wild pig, Samber, Swamp deer, Hog deer, hundreds of winged species migrate to the friendly climate of Manas during Winter. Among them are Riverchats (white capped Redstars), Forktails, Cormorants and various types of ducks including Rudly sheldducks. The woodland birds are no less charming and include the Indian Hornbill and the great pied Hornbill.
Nameri National Park
The Nameri National park, covering an area of 25 Km stretch of the Bhoroli River till preserves the white winged wood duck whose global population is believed to be less than 450. Other species include hornbills, varieties of bird species, elephants and tigers. It is about 230 Km from Guwahati city.
Pabha Or Milroy Sanctuary
Covering an area of 49 sq. Km, Pabha Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Lakhimpur district. It is a sanctuary created exclusively for the protection of the magnificent Wild water Buffalo. For details please contact the Chief Conservator of Forest, wildlife, Z00-Narengi Road, Guwahati Assam.
Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary
This wildlife Sanctuary, 175 Sq Km in area, is situated in the Sonitpur District Extending along the Himalayan foothills. It offers magnificent view of both scenic beauty and wildlife. The sanctuary is the home of elephant, Indian Bison, Deer and a variety of hill birds. For visiting this sanctuary, tourist/visitor may contact the divisional Forest Officer, Western Assam wildlife Division, Tezpur, District Sonitpur (Assam) or the Deputy director, Tourism, Govt. of Assam, Tezpur, Sonitpur dist. Assam.
Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary
This sanctuary is situated in the Nagaon district covering an area of 60 Sq. Km. It harbors wildlife species like the Great Indian one-horned rhinoceros, Wild Buffalo, Swamp Deer, Duck, cormorant, etc. It is only 15 Km from Nagaon Town.
