Western Australia - Parks/Reserves

Beedelup National Park
Beedelup Falls are situated off Vasse Highway. They are set in beautiful forest surroundings, and feature a short walk crossing Beedelup Brook on a footbridge built from a Karri log. The "Walk Through Karri" is also situated in the Beedelup National Park. This giant 400 year- old Karri with a 3m x 4m hole took 10 hours to cut by chain saw. We can stand in the hole with over 151 tonnes of tree above us.

Warren National Park
Some of the best accessible virgin Karri forest, and the biggest (89m) of the Karri trees, can be found here.

Cape Leeuwin National Park
This park covers the Cape, which is the land's end of the South West and the junction of the Indian and Southern Oceans. The Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse was named after the Dutch ship Leeuwin that passed this point in 1622.

Ningaloo Marine Park
Offshore, the Ningaloo Reef stretches from north to south for 260km and protects a lagoon rich in marine life. Fantastic coral formations, rare starfish, Dugongs, Whale Sharks, playful Dolphins and giant Hump- Backed Whales are some of the fascinating marine life that inhabit the waters. In season, sheltered sand beaches serve as nesting rookeries for turtles. Several historic shipwrecks can also be found in the Park.

Fish are plentiful and common species include Sweetlip, Spangled Emperor and several types of Trevally. In deeper water, Spanish Mackerel, Wahoo, Tuna and Sailfish can be caught. Some 220 species of coral and 500 species of fish have been recorded in the Park.

The world's biggest fish, the Whale Shark can often be seen. During summer, green and Loggerhead Turtles make their way up the beaches to lay their eggs.

Yanchep National Park
The park contains wetlands, woodlands and caves. Bushwalkers can explore the natural surroundings and discover the homes of many animals such as the Western Grey Kangaroo, the tiny honey possum, bandicoots, reptiles and many friendly water birds.

There are limestone caves, Tudor style Buildings, row boats for hire, shady picnic and barbecue areas and a colony of koalas. All of these attractions are located near the lake of Loch McNess.

Watheroo National Park
Situated 50km north of Moora the park is accessible from all directions by good gravel roads. The Park is 44 324ha of sand plain country with some rare flora. It is also the site of Jingamia Cave.

Nambung National Park
The Pinnacles, which are located in this Park, are undoubtedly one of the State's most unique and interesting attractions. Thousands of limestone pillars, up to 4m tall, rise out of a stark landscape of yellow sand. The Pinnacles are located approximately 29km south of Cervantes and 2km inland from the beach. Dutch sailors saw these limestone outcrops from the sea and thought they were the remains of an ancient city.

Fishing is popular at nearby Hangover Bay and Kangaroo Point and both have visitor facilities.
