Named after
King William IVs queen, Adelaide, the capital of South
Australia, is a very elegant and beautiful city. It is home to
more than one million people. There are more restaurant places
per head here than anywhere else in Australia.
It is a gracious, well-planned city of gardens, historic,
restored colonial pubs, churches and modern buildings. The city
center has a superb setting surrounded by open parkland
separating the business heart from the suburbs, and the entire
city is sheltered on a narrow coastal plain between the
protective ring of the Adelaide Hills and Gulf St Vincent, 10
kilometers to the west.
It's gracious Victorian or Edwardian buildings and homes of the
colonial era are lovingly preserved. The vineyards that surround
the city produce some of Australias finest wines.
