South Australia - Adelaide

Named after King William IV’s queen, Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, is a very elegant and beautiful city. It is home to more than one million people. There are more restaurant places per head here than anywhere else in Australia.

It is a gracious, well-planned city of gardens, historic, restored colonial pubs, churches and modern buildings. The city center has a superb setting surrounded by open parkland separating the business heart from the suburbs, and the entire city is sheltered on a narrow coastal plain between the protective ring of the Adelaide Hills and Gulf St Vincent, 10 kilometers to the west.

It's gracious Victorian or Edwardian buildings and homes of the colonial era are lovingly preserved. The vineyards that surround the city produce some of Australia’s finest wines.

The Sunday markets right by the lighthouse are very popular with those hunting antiques and books and next to Torrens Island, local fishermen and market gardeners selling their fresh produce every Sunday.

Adelaide Festival Center
The center is home to the State Theatre Company and utilizes several theatres to hold plays, entertainment, opera and other artistic performances.
