South Australia - General Info

South Australia is a state promising with history, wine and wildlife. Adelaide, the capital city, hugs the shoreline of the Southern Ocean, and is a perfect starting point to set out on an exploration of the wine regions, mountain ranges, the outback, and the spectacular animal sanctuaries on its doorstep.

South Australia, the fourth largest of the Australian States, is a sparsely inhabited state. It is the country's driest State, a region of rocky plains and desert landscape broken by the fertile wine-growing areas, which include the Barossa Valley. South Australia stretches upwards to the Northern Territory, and eastwards to Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria and westwards to Western Australia. The countryside ranges from the beach resorts of the Adelaide suburbs to the vast expanses of isolated, semi-desert outback; from the craggy mountains of Flinders Ranges to the meandering Murray River.

This is a vast region with a very little population. So there is every chance to enjoy the beauty of silence and solitude also in many parts of the state.
