Queensland is Australia's fastest
growing state. It has plentiful natural resources, a superb
sub-tropical climate and up-to-date technology and services,
with ample room to develop and expand. Covering an area of over
1.7 million square kilometers, Queensland accounts for nearly
25% of the total land area of the Australian continent.
By way of an international comparison, Queensland covers seven
times the area of the United Kingdom. It is more than twice the
size of Texas and five times larger than Japan.
Queensland has unpolluted beaches and waterways, national parks,
cool rainforests and tropical reefs. With a warm, sunny,
sub-tropical climate, average summer temperatures of 25 degrees
Celsius and average winter temperatures of around 15 degrees
Celsius, Queensland benefits from more winter sunshine and
warmth than most other Australian states.
Rainfall varies regionally and seasonally. Most of the State
receives over 50% of its annual rainfall during summer. Average
rainfall varies from less than 150 mm in the south-west region
to more than 4000mm on the northern coast.
Queensland today has one of the strongest economies in
Australia. The State has prospered through agriculture, mining
and, more recently, tourism. |
