Tour Highlights

After arriving at Chennai which is the fourth largest city in India and gateway to the south you can embark on the voyage of Southern Splendour. Visit the Mahabalipuram, Kanchipuram, Tanjore, which was the capital of the Chola kings and the enormous Brihadeshwara Temple built there around 1000 AD. Coimbatore, The Nilgiris, Ooty, Mysore Palace and Halebid, Belur Sravenbelagola would be mesmerizing.

Itinerary

Day 01 
Arrival Chennai. 
Visit Fort St. George, built in the following year became the chief centre of activity of the East India company. Within the fort is St. Mary's Church, the first Anglican church built in India. Also visit the National Art Gallery, museum and the Sam Thome Cathedral. 

Transfer Chennai/Mahabalipuram (70 kms/ 2 hours)
Sightseeing of Mahabalipuram
Dinner and overnight stay at Ideal Beach Resort

Day 02
Morning breakfast at hotel.
Sightseeing of Kanchipuram (60 kms/2 hours)
Kanchipuram which is known as 'The Golden city of a thousand Temples'. Visit the 7th century Kailasantha Temple dedicated to Shiva and Vaikuntaperumal temple dedicated to Vishnu. Kanchipuram is noted for its cotton dyeing and silk weaving. 
Day excursion to Kanchipuram.
Lunch at local restaurant..
Dinner and overnight stay at Ideal Beach Resort.

Day 04
Morning breakfast at hotel.
Transfer Pondicherry/Tanjavur (240 kms/6 hours) 
Today visit Tanjore and Kumbakonam. Tanjore was the capital of the Cholas kings and the enormous Brihadeshwara Temple built around 1000 AD represents one of the fines examples of south Indian Arts and architecture.
Lunch at Kumbakonam Local Restaurant.

Day 05
Morning breakfast and Sightseeing tour of Tanjavur.
Transfer Tanjavur/Trichy (65 kms/ 2 hours). 
Afternoon visit Srirangam Temple (10 kms from Town), Rock Fort Ganesh Temple with four hundred and thirty seven steps (eighty three meter height). Watch sunset from Rock Fort.
The city of Trichy which is dominated by the Rock Fort Temple.
Check in/dinner and overnight stay at Femina hotel. 

Day 06 
Transfer Trichy/Madurai (135 kms/ 4hours).
Lunch at local restaurant. 
This morning drive down to Madurai which has been a centre of learning and pilgrimage for may centuries. Life in this bustling pilgrimage city is centred around the great Meenakshi Temple. In the afternoon visit the Shree Meenakshi Sundareshawara temple which dominates the old city. witness the temple music in the evening. Evening witness of Pooja Ceremony (special pooja at Meenakshi Temple) there is also a cycle rickshaw travel through the city

Day 07
transfer Madurai/Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary (135 kms/ 4 hours) 
Morning after breakfast visiting Villages, Rice Fields, Banana Plantations, Brick kiln/Water Falls/Coir crafts etc. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in the cardamom hills on the border of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Evening viewing by boat.

Day 08 
Morning breakfast at hotel.
Transfer Periyar/Alleppey (135 kms/5 hours)
Embark and Lunch on House Boat.
Our houseboats were originally built 40 years ago and are constructed from Anjli wood and coir. They are 55 feet in length and 15 feet in width and with a capacity of 35 tons they were used for transporting a variety of goods, but mainly rice. The rice barge is pushed through the water by two men using tall bamboo poles - they cover a distance of approximately 20 kms a day! they are simply furnished and consist of a thatched covered lounge cum dining area, a double bedroom (with mosquito net) and bathroom with a WC and wash basin. In the evening the boat is lit by hurricane lamps. Thatched awnings on both sides of the boat allows the breeze and views to flow in. There is a service area at the back where the cook prepares simple meals using as much fresh previsions as can be plucked, caught or bought in the backwaters. A guide also travels with the boat to make life informative and interesting as you wish.

House boat cruise in the canal by bamboo poles, sail through the lagoon with favourable wind, for a change swim in the water, enjoy the scenic beauty of colourful villages. Have a sumptous meal on banana leaves.

Evening witness sunset through coconut palms. Dinner under million stars. Sleep and dream with the pleasant roll of backwater (you can have a discussion on various subjects on our Indian culture with your guide). 

Day 09
Morning wake up the tune of birds. Breakfast on House Boat.
Cruise through the narrow canals and villages backwaters. Witness the humble living of Keralites and many goods are sold and purchased by Barter System still today Disembark House Boat and proceed to Cochin (65kms /2hours).On arrival sightseeing of Cochin/Lunch at local restaurant. Visit the Mattancherry Palace, Fort Cochin and St.Francis Church, the oldest European church in India and also visit Chinese fishing net. In the evening witness Kathakali Dance Drama.

Day 10
Morning breakfast at hotel.
Transfer Cochin/Muvattupuzha (65kms/ 2hours)

Day 11

Transfer Muvattupuzha/Cheruthuruthi. (120 kms/4 hours)
Check in at The River Retreat
afternoon visit cheruthuruthy Kerala Kalamandalam
- 32kms from Trissur world known kathakali training centre a music and dance accademy,
training kathakali,Mohiniyattom, thullal and other arts of kerala.

Day 12
Morning after breakfast 
transfer Cheruthuruthi/Mettuppalayam via Coimbatore (180 kms/ 5 hours)
Lunch on local restaurant. Coimbatore city is the headquarters of the district and third largest city in Tamil Nadu. As it is exposed to the Palghat Pass of western ghats, it enjoys a salubrious climate.

Day 13
Eraly morning after breakfast transfer to Mettuppalayam Railway Station.
Mettuppalayam/Ooty by Toy Train (24 kms/ 5 hours).
THE NILGIRIS invites you to experience the ecstatic, meandering train journey from an elevation of 2192.72 meters at Udhagamandalam station (popularly known as Ooty) to a level of 325.82 meters above mean sea level at Mettupalayam station on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, which was opened to traffic on 15 June 1899. On arrival transfer to hotel.

Day 14
Transfer Ooty/Mysore via Mudumalai (165 kms/ 7 hours)
Mundamalai - It is situated on the Ooty/Mysore highway. 67 kms from Ooty via Gudallur or 59 kms via Masinagudi. This road goes from Ooty through HPF and segur ghat, Kalhati waterfalls, Theppakkadu and Gundelpet.
Lunch at local restaurant.

On arrival Mysore visit Mysore Palace.
This rural city is noted for its palatial buildings beautiful gardens and as a major center for the manufacture of incense made from sandal wood, mush and jasmine. Mysore is also a center for handicrafts specializing in wood carvings and silk. In the afternoon visit the Maharaja Palace which is the focal point of the city.

Day 15
Breakfast at hotel.
Full day Sightseeing of Mysore.
Today visit the colourful vegetable and flower market in Mysore. Drive out to Chamundi hill to view the Chamundeswari temple and the famous Nandi Bull. Also visit the Sri Chamundeswari Temple at Somnathpur, built around 1260 AD by the Hoysala Kings.
Lunch at local restaurant
Dinner and overnight stay at hotel Viceroy.

Day 16
Morning breakfast at hotel.
Transfer Mysore/Hassan (110 kms/3 hours).
Today visit the Hoysala temples at Belur and Halebid. The Hoysala at Halebid ruled over the Mysore plateau in the 12th and 13th centuries and were originally Jain, but in the 11th century the Hoysala Kings returned to Hinduism and marked their temple at Belur is noted for its elaborate attention to detail.

Day 17
Morning breakfast at hotel.
Hassan/Bangalore via Sravanabelagola.
Visit Gomateswara Statue, Silk worm centers & farm, Mulberry Farm, Sravanbelagola Temple etc.

On arrival sightseeing of Bangalore.
Though a modern, important commercial center, Bangalore remains one of India's most attractive cities. Around the center of the city you will find parks and gardens, wide tree lined avenues, imposing buildings and lively bazars. Later tour city visiting Tipu Sultan's summer palace and the nearby bull Temple which is one of the oldest temples in Bangalore. Also visit the Lalbagh Botanical gardens and Vidhana soudha.

Departure from Bangalore for Mumbai
